Dr. SL Hobson, Ph.D., MSW, CDVC, CCSP, is a highly experienced mental health clinician/practitioner. He spent decades championing comprehensive mental health services in a variety of professional settings, including Children/Adult Residential Behavioral Health Care, Foster Care, DHCS & CCL Licensed facilities. Auditing BBS Licensed Continued Education Programs for San Bernardino, Orange and Los Angeles counties, as well as Journals for Behavioral Health Publications.
His expansive career also spans law enforcement, education, and a variety of therapeutic modalities, showcasing his adaptability and versatility in tackling mental health challenges.
Having started his career in education, Dr. Hobson brought his understanding of societal factors and their role in mental health to his subsequent positions. He had an extensive mental health career at Kaiser Permanente Foundation for 22 years, where he cultivated his expertise in bio-psychosocial/ complex assessments, clinical approaches, and culturally sensitive counseling. He demonstrated clinical competence through case presentations, staff feedback, and various adjunctive services.
Upon retiring from and while assigned to the Kaiser Permanente Foundation, Dr. Hobson began his tenure as the Founder and Executive Director of Precious Life Children & Educational Services. Here, he spearheaded programs focusing on family preservation, emergency family intervention, and continual education for mental health professionals.
Dr. Hobson also showcased his leadership abilities through significant roles at multiple
organizations. He proved his skills in compliance, program development, and directing various treatment modalities.
Further highlighting his commitment to mental health services, Dr. Hobson worked extensively in academia as a Master of Social Work Field Instructor at several universities. He applies his practical experience in the classroom setting, enriching students’ learning experiences with firsthand knowledge.
Dr. Hobson’s extensive training and certifications underline his dedication to the mental health field. He is a Certified Alcohol & Other Drug Counselor SUDCC IV, Domestic Violence Counselor IV, and Sociological Forensic Practitioner. He holds numerous other prestigious accreditations, including a Master’s in Social Work and Ph.D. in Forensic Social Psychology. His massive clinical group hours highlight his hands-on experience and dedication to patients’ well-being.
Beyond his remarkable professional accomplishments, Dr. Hobson’s commitment to advocating for mental health on an organizational level is commendable. He served on the Board of Directors for the Sickle Cell Organization of Southern California and the Sickle Cell Organization of Inland Counties. He also engages with the California Mental Health Advocates for Children and Youth.
